Squelch \Squelch\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Squelched; p. pr. & vb.
   n. Squelching.] [Cf. prov. E. quelch a blow, and quel to
   crush, to kill.]
   To quell; to crush; to silence or put down. [Colloq.]
